The first ever dedicated centre for runners and hikers has been launched in North Wales.
The new centre says it is the only one of its kind in the UK and will enable people to go running or walking in quiet trails, and it’s set up just like the mountain biking centre.
According to the report in the Daily Post ‘Run Coed y Brenin’ describes itself a destination centre for runners and it is located in Coed y Brenin forest park in Dolgellau, Gwynedd, which already hosts a world class mountain bike trail.
Matt Ward, who runs the new centre for runners, said: “We’ve replicated the mountain bike centre for trail runners, it’s a destination trail centre where you can come, spend the day, go for a run, buy trainers or rent and test new ones.
“We’re doing really well. It’s really good, in terms of visitors, it’s not the holidays, but there are still plenty of walkers, hikers, and families getting out and about as well.”
North Wales has been popular with walkers and mountain bikers for years, but recently, with the likes of Zip World and Bounce Below, the cave trampolining centre, the region has become a destination for outdoor pursuits.
Matt added: “The outdoor industry is beginning to wake up to the opportunity and the benefits of tourism.
“People don’t just come to walk up Snowdon, there are a huge array of things to do, outdoor pursuits, and we’re benefiting from that, Coed y Brenin is getting busier, with walkers, mums, dads and kids, runners, cyclists, all sorts of people.”
Will Herman, Pelican’s specialist in leisure PR and communications for outdoor brands commented: “The launch of the new facility highlights the need for the outdoor industry to continue to innovate in order to attract more visitors.
“Whilst many trail runners will enjoy planning their own trip, a destination venue such as this is a way of attracting new entrants to the sport as well as encouraging repeat visits which will generate more tourism pounds.’
