Bicycle travel continues to grow as part of the travel market in North America and beyond, according to empirical research and anecdotal evidence from tour operators and tourism promoters throughout the United States.
Bicycle travel is becoming an increasingly visible part of the adventure travel market, which, according to a recent study issued by the Adventure Travel Trade Association, generates $89 billion annually.
“At Adventure Cycling, we enjoyed a record year and have been hearing from many companies and nonprofits that their participation rates and business are on the upswing,” said Jim Sayer, executive director of Adventure Cycling Association, the largest cycling membership group in North America.
Pelican MD Michael Bennett said: “Cycling has enjoyed a boom in urban areas, especially London. It would be good to see a similar expansion of adventure cycling in the UK.”
