The original Stylophone shot to fame in the sixties when it was used by David Bowie in his track Space Oddity. Other music professionals also saw the attraction of the portable synth as it became an iconic sound. More recently, the Stylophone was featured in the latest Hollywood blockbuster Baby Driver.

Dubreq’s managing director, John Simpson says there’s already been a surge of interest in the portable synthesiser which features updated controls that alter the pitch and octave, rate and wave of melodies created by users.

Mr Simpson said: “More and more young musicians are excited by the possibilities that technology offers them to make music. Many of them are looking for affordable and innovative instruments which is one reason behind the re-discovery of the Stylophone and the development of our new Gen X-1.”

Pelican managing director, Michael Bennett said: “Having grown-up with the Stylophone, it’s great fun to be working on such iconic brand that’s doing a great job of making itself relevant to younger musicians.”

Like the original, Gen X-1 users can make quirky and original musical compositions by using the metal keyboard with either the stylus pen-shaped tool attached to the battery-operated model. Alternatively, they can use their fingers to sound the notes.

Adding to this, the Gen X-1 comes with a 3.5mm jack, allowing users to connect the instrument to other gadgets or a pair of headphones.

John says: “Aside from the obvious fun factor, the Gen X-1’s versatility is its number one feature. It offers users of any musical background the chance to be creative and experiment with unusual mixes and melodies. Professional musicians also love the choice of sounds the Gen X-1 gives them.”

The Stylophone Gen X-1 is available now from Amazon and dubreq.com SRP: £59.99. The original Stylophone is also available for £19.99
