Waste management needs new image

The waste management industry needs to do more to improve its image according to new research.

The survey of waste industry professionals undertaken by Pelican PR found that 68% felt that the image of the industry needs to be improved.

The research which was undertaken in the run-up to and during the Recycling and Waste Management show at Birmingham’s NEC, reveals the widespread concern about the industry’s image with the public.

Michael Bennett managing director of Pelican said: “The industry still has a poor public image and needs to do more to explain its vital role.

“With the need for more waste management facilities to be built the industry needs to demonstrate that it is leading the drive to a more sustainable future and that waste management is a growing, and environmentally positive industry.”

He added: “A great job has been done to get more and more households to recycle, we now need a similar push to improve the image of the industry.”
