Zero waste to landfill target for LOCOG

London 2012 organiser LOCOG set itself the target of sending zero waste to landfill and major recycling targets.

Corporate sustainability manager Phil Cumming freely admits that music and sporting events don’t have a great recycling track record, but claims that LOCOG’s ambitious programme is a first: “What we are doing is out of scale it hasn’t really been done before.” So how is LOCOG going to achieve this? Or will this be another case of the Olympic Deliverance? MRW has been looking behind the scenes at the Games and their article makes interesting reading.

One thing’s for sure, if they fail to achieve their targets the negative PR will be substantial and one of the promises of the Games will be seriously undermined.
