The outdoor industry has taken another positive step to promote public participation.
Outdoor Industries Association (OIA) has launched its first major initiative for 2011. Going live in March, The Active Guide (TAG) will be a new comprehensive and interactive online guide to the best outdoor locations and activities around the UK.
TAG will be a complete guide for members of the general public who want to participate in outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, climbing, camping, caravanning and a variety of water sports.
Using the site’s innovative map based interface, visitors will be able to quickly access a database of service providers, activity centres, clubs, retail outlets and much more. The site will also direct them to a wealth of user generated content including people’s favourite locations, routes, videos, photos, and other useful information.
Through a special trade microsite (http://getinvolved.theactiveguide.com/index.htm) we are offering all outdoor businesses in the country an opportunity to feature on TAG free of charge and reach many thousands of outdoor consumers during what will be a sustained communications campaign by the association.
TAG will also feature user generated content and the OIA is encouraging keen writers to draft and submit articles for inclusion on the site, on a variety of outdoor topics. All published authors will be fully credited, and TAG will include links to their own sites or blogs, if they have them. We will publish articles on the site that offer both information and advice, all intended to encourage more people to explore the outdoors, armed with the appropriate knowledge and products for their chosen activities.
