A clean new look for Chamberlaine

Design / Content Creation

Chamberlaine Cleaning Service is a specialist corporate cleaning company operating in central London. With clients increasingly looking for improved environmental performance from cleaning services, and Chamberlaine already implementing a far-reaching CSR programme, Pelican was tasked with producing a CSR report to help the business differentiate itself in the market.

Tell me more

Writing and designing engaging CSR reports is one of Pelican’s specialities, so we were able to recommend a content plan, structure and visual style that would reflect Chamberlaine’s commitment to putting the environment and community at the heart of its operations.

The challenge

Chamberlaine had already implemented its ‘Embrace Now’ plan, but the only existing collateral was a PowerPoint presentation being used internally. What they needed was a client-facing version that could serve as a powerful tool for engaging existing and potential clients. Since many of Chamberlaine’s competitors have also produced CSR reports, it was important that both the written and visual tone of this document set the business apart.

The Pelican approach

Rather than produce a traditional CSR report, our aim was to produce a document that would be an expression of the Chamberlaine culture; responding to social challenges through collaboration and innovation, with environmental impact, staff optimism and community development front of mind.

The first step was to take the information from the existing presentation, create a more cohesive, reader-friendly structure, and change the corporate tone to approachable, professional and above all passionate about CSR.

When it came to design, our brief was ‘eye-catching and not corporate’. There were no brand guidelines to follow, and the Chamberlaine website has a distinctly corporate feel, so we decided to start with a colour palette inspired by the website, and warm it up with complementary bright colours, to create a distinct style that still retained a visual link to the Chamberlaine identity.

To break up the text, our design team recreated existing Chamberlaine graphics in line with the new stylesetter, and opted for bespoke illustrations rather than stock photography. This approach meant the imagery could be adapted to suit each theme covered in the report.

The results

The finished report is an eye-catching brochure that will be used in all future meetings with potential Chamberlaine clients. Pelican has since been asked to produce an accompanying leaflet, and oversee a social media campaign to promote the report.
